Hi everyone!  My name is Julie Higginbotham, and I’m excited to introduce you to Precious Developments, Inc.For almost 20 years, I’ve had the honor of working with individuals with developmental delays and disabilities and their families, and the last 12 years have been focused more on early intervention with infants and toddlers and their families.  I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own business of supporting an inclusive environment for families in whatever capacity I can.  Basically, I have the most awesome job in the world!

As for my background, besides having had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best of the best over the years, I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from West Virginia University.  Let’s go…… (you better be yelling “Mountaineers” from wherever you are!!)…  I am also getting ready to graduate with my Master of Education in Child and Family Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and Early Intervention and a Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Mental Health from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte – yay!  I must say, though, that none of these formal resources would have been so important and impactful had it not been for families who have shared their lives and their stories with me over the years.

As for my business, Precious Developments, Inc. is here to celebrate exactly that – precious developments.  What does that mean, you ask?  Well, just about anything, really!  Take a look at my priorities…..

  • Focusing on Children – Children are precious developments, in and of themselves.  It is amazing to me that their DNA lined up just right to create these little beings, and each developmental milestone is equally precious and amazing.  I love helping shine a light on each of those steps and encourage others to figure out how they can take everyday activities and turn them into incredible learning moments for kids.
  • Focusing on Families – From the moment their babies are linked to their worlds, whether it starts with a positive pregnancy test or some other wonderful connection, families go through their own precious developmental journey together.  They’re learning about themselves, each other, and their children, and it’s a constantly evolving process for them.  Families have what it takes to do it and do it well, and I want to be around to cheer them on if they need it.
  • Focusing on Professionals – To me, professional development is a precious journey that looks so different for everyone.  Formal education is important, but like I said before, that education needs to be balanced with families’ perspectives since they’re the reason we’re here.  I truly believe that professionals bring a lot to the table, and just like families, I know they have what it takes to support children and families the way they need to be supported.  I’m here to highlight those strengths and figure out how to use them to keep moving forward.

So, there you have it, a peek into what makes me tick and how I view my place in this wonderful world.  Now, it’s your turn –  Contact Me so I can get to know you better and talk more about how I can support you and your agency to help provide an inclusive community for families!
